Physical Rehabilitation Programs

The cornerstone of great physiotherapy is a thorough assessment. During a 1 hour assessment, our physical therapists carefully examine each individual to determine a diagnosis and design a complete treatment and physical rehabilitation program specific to each client’s needs.

Exercise Therapy

Exercise Therapy Program

MacLean Sport Physiotherapy is a fully equipped clinic in which a complete treatment program is applied. A variety of strength equipment and balance equipment is used to provide a progressive physiotherapy program to train your body. Whether you are trying to recover from injury or achieve new personal best times, you will be given specific exercises that will help you meet your goals.

Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy

Our physical therapists have excellent manual therapy skills. Manual therapy involves using your hands to feel how a client’s joints, muscles and soft tissues are moving and then applying specific pressure or stretches to loosen scar tissue and improve movement.

Active Release Techniques™

Active Release Techniques

ART™ is a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.

Your body produces tough, dense scar tissue in response to repetitive strain injuries and in response to acute injury. This scar tissue glues tissues together and doesn’t allow them to move freely.

ART treatments involve hands on assessment to find scar tissue and release it, allowing your body to move properly again.

Fascial Stretch Therapy

Fascial Stretch Therapy

Fascial Stretch Therapy™ uses multi-planar and multi joint stretch to target the fascia. This type of therapy uses bed and anchor type stretches that aims to “unstick” fascia. This will help relieve chronic muscle tightness and tension, improve joint mobility and overall flexibility and improve posture, circulation, relaxation and sleep.

Medical Acupuncture

Medical Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a powerful treatment technique that stimulates natural healing and decreases pain, swelling, and inflammation. Thin needles are used to stimulate the nerve.

The brain reacts to this stimulation by releasing endorphins (our body’s natural pain killers) and anti-inflammatory chemicals. It is a comfortable and relaxing treatment that creates an overall healing response.

Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy

We use both Bioflex and Theralase lasers for our treatments. Two of the most established and effective lasers available in Canada.

Light and laser light are used to promote natural healing within our body. As everyone knows, light contains energy. Like plants, our body has chemicals that absorbs energy from the light and turns it into energy within our cells. Absorbing this light stimulates many effects in our cells resulting in a healing response.

Laser therapy is most impressive in how quickly it works for acute injuries. Healing times often can be cut in half when treatment is started within 1–2 weeks of an injury. Laser therapy is also effective at treating arthritic joints and can often cause healing where other physical therapies have failed.

Bike Fitting

Bike Fitting

Our bike fitting service is tailored to athletes who are having difficulties with physical pain or discomfort while cycling. Richard is able to use his knowledge of physiotherapy and certification in FIST bike fitting to assess and fit your body to your bike and help alleviate any discomforts you are experiencing.

Having an assessment with your bike will help Richard understand your personal mechanics and how they relate to your cycling. If your discomfort is caused by your biomechanics, you may be a good candidate for physiotherapy. If the issue is being caused by a poorly fit bike, Richard will be able to make adjustments to the bike in order to correct this. Often times this type of combined approach is the best way to get people back on their bike and riding pain free.
